Overview
NSW Point initiatives have been developed by Spatial Services to improve NSW Government records, enhance reporting capabilities, and simplify the customer user experience by offering a fast, high quality, authoritative validation at the point of entry.
NSW Point can provide validation against address, geocode, cadastral parcel or property on a national level using APIs that can be integrated into NSW Government websites, online forms, and applications.
Address Validation APIs and web services include a variety of solutions intended to meet differing address validation needs:
Using coordinates (latitude, longitude), customers can return addressing and location information. APIs that use co-ordinates as an input are useful for applications to be used in the field from a smart device. This will also specifically allow entry by coordinate where clients don’t want to use full address string as input or don’t know the address.
The V3 Cadastral Parcel API streamlines the process of inputting and validating cadastral parcel IDs, providing comprehensive information including parsed and unparsed address formats, property details, and administrative boundary areas.
The Property API facilitates the validation of state and national unique property identifiers, providing property information and their relationships to addresses, cadastral parcels, and administrative boundaries.
Address
Predictive Address
This is the most popular NSW Point service. It provides predictive address suggestions for embedding in government online forms. As a customer types their address into a form, this service will offer a list of valid address suggestions for the customer to choose from.
This improves the customer’s experience by reducing keystrokes and helps to ensure that only authoritative addresses are captured in agency systems using a consistent format.
Features include:
- Location (coordinates)
- Authoritative national address, cadastral, and property information
- Administrative boundaries (Local Government Areas, State and Federal Electoral Divisions, ASGS Meshblock, Remoteness, SEIFA information)
The services include:
- GET Suggested Addresses: Provides accurate and timely address suggestions as users enter information into web-enabled forms and applications. It provides a unique ID for each address.
- GET an Address by ID: This API accepts an address ID provided by the GET Suggested Addresses API and returns a variety of address and location information.
Address Validation
Agencies that do not require a predictive address suggestion service but still wish to validate addresses captured in existing web forms or systems can use these services. They offer the flexibility of accepting addresses in variety of formats (e.g. parsed, unparsed or partially parsed) and can provide validation against GNAF Live, GNAF and Australia Post's Postal Address File (PAF).
Features include:
- A variety of address matches and match quality metadata
- Address, street, and locality matching
- Location (coordinates)
- Authoritative national address, cadastral, and property information
- Postal address identifiers
- Ability to parse the input address
- Administrative boundaries (Local Government Areas, State and Federal Electoral Divisions, ASGS Meshblock, Remoteness, SEIFA information)
- Customisable Coordinate Reference Systems (GDA94, GDA2020, WGS84, AGD66)
The services include:
- Geocode Address API: This API is recommended for customers looking to validate physical addresses and identify address locations.
- Mailpoint API: Customers looking to validate addresses against Australia Post database for the purpose of mail delivery can take advantage of this service.
Coordinate
Reverse Geocoder
The Reverse Geocoder allows customers to input coordinates for any location in Australia and identify the nearest address for that location.
Features include:
- Ability to customise the type of addresses returned, e.g. primary address, secondary address, street, locality.
- Authoritative national address, coordinates, cadastral, and property information
- Administrative boundaries (Local Government Areas, State and Federal Electoral Divisions, ASGS Meshblock, Remoteness, SEIFA information)
- Customisable Coordinate Reference Systems (GDA94, GDA2020, WGS84, AGD66)
Administrative Boundaries
Customers can input coordinates for a location and return a variety of administrative boundary information for that location. Administrative Boundary datasets are sourced directly from national and state data custodians and updated on a quarterly basis. Customers can take advantage of the following administrative boundary datasets using this service:
- 2011, 2016, and 2021 Australian Statistical Geography Standard (ASGS) Mesh blocks, Remoteness, and SEIFA information provided by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS)
- Commonwealth and State Electoral District
- Local Government Area
- Suburb/Locality
- Customisable Coordinate Reference Systems (GDA94, GDA2020, WGS84, AGD66)
Cadastral Parcel
Parcel Validation
NSW Government customers working with property and cadastral data can use this service to validate a parcel reference. Customers can input a parcel ID and return details about that parcel and other related FSDI and administrative boundary information. NSW parcel IDs are comprised of the following attributes: lot, section, and plan.
Features include:
- Authoritative national address, coordinate, cadastral, and property information
- Administrative boundaries (Local Government Areas, State and Federal Electoral Divisions, ASGS Meshblock, Remoteness, SEIFA information)
- Customisable Coordinate Reference Systems (GDA94, GDA2020, WGS84, AGD66)
Property
Property Validation
NSW Government customers working with property and cadastral data can use this service to validate a property reference. By inputting a property ID (either national or state), users can retrieve detailed information about the property, along with related FSDI and administrative boundary data. NSW property IDs serve as unique identifiers derived from the NSW Valuer General's Property Database.
Features include:
- Authoritative national data on addresses, coordinates, cadastral, and property information
- Administrative boundaries, such as Local Government Areas, State and Federal Electoral Divisions, ASGS Meshblocks, Remoteness, and SEIFA data
- Flexible support for various Coordinate Reference Systems, including GDA94, GDA2020, WGS84, and AGD66
